Welcome to The Sutton Place Hotel Halifax. My name is James, and I am the Chef Concierge.

I am also a member of Les Clefs d’Or, an organization of professional hotel concierges. There are over 4,000 concierges in this prestigious federation, and I am proud to be the only member in the Atlantic Region.

It’s April in Halifax and the weather is getting warmer. That means many patios in the city will be opening for the season…and I love all the outdoor dining options in the city. A few that I recommend:

Water Polo – Lower Water St. – one of the city’s newest seafood hotspots. Nothing beats sampling oysters, lobster bisque or the many fish dishes right at the water’s edge. Upscale dining in a beautiful space to “see and be seen”.

Café Byron – Agricola St. – this neighbourhood café offers delicious coffees and your typical selection of pastries, bagel sandwiches and light soups. You can tell that everything is made with love and the freshest ingredients. The service is warm and welcoming and the sunny, streetside patio is a great place to spend a few hours watching the world go by.

Sketti & Ball Co. – Argyle St. – there are many patios to choose from on Argyle Street but this is one of my favourites. Casual and relaxed, with plenty of opportunity to “people-watch” and the food is delicious! You can choose the type of meatball, the type of sauce and the type of noodle for a customized dish that will satisfy every palate.
